Terms of Use
Last updated: November 2, 2026
1. Purpose and acceptance
These Terms govern your use of the Opinion Scanner mobile application (the “App”) and of the website opinionscanner.app (the “Site”), published by Frédéric Marcie, an individual, under the name Opinion Scanner (“Opinion Scanner”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, subscribing or otherwise using the App, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App.
Our Privacy Policy and Legal Notice also apply.
2. The service
Opinion Scanner measures press coverage: it gathers articles published by news media, groups them into daily topics and shows which media covered each one, with a coverage rate. It presents; it does not rank media, take an editorial position or rewrite articles.
The App includes a press review that can be read aloud, optional voice commands, word clouds, search, saved articles, personal sources that you add, and the ability to report an article or a media or to suggest one.
The Free plan is supported by advertising banners. The paid plans, Essential and World, show no advertising and offer more features and higher limits (see section 4). We may add, change or remove features, media, countries and limits; the current ones are shown in the App.
3. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the App.
- You can start reading without an account: the App gives your device an anonymous session. You can subscribe without an account: the subscription is linked to your Apple or Google store account. On another device using the same store account, use “Restore purchases”. Creating an account is optional and can be done at any time; it also lets you access your subscription on another platform.
- Give accurate information, keep your credentials confidential and tell us about any unauthorised use. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You can delete your account from the Account screen of the App. Deletion takes effect 30 days after your request; if you sign in again before then, you can restore your account (see section 9).
4. Subscriptions, prices and payment
- Plans. Essential and World, each billed monthly or yearly. The features of each plan are described in the App’s store screen when you subscribe.
- Free trial. Some subscriptions may start with a free trial period; its length is shown before you buy. At the end of the trial, the subscription becomes chargeable at the price shown and renews automatically, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, in the subscription settings of your Apple or Google account. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple or Google. Subscribing before the trial ends forfeits the unused part of it.
- Payment. Subscriptions are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase on iOS, and through Google Play Billing on Android. Apple and Google, not us, process the payment; we never receive your card number or your store account password. Prices are shown in the App before you buy, in the currency of your store account.
- Automatic renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal is charged by the store to the account you bought it with — your Apple ID, or your Google account.
- Cancelling. You cancel with the store you bought from, never with us. For an Apple subscription: on your device, Settings → your name → Subscriptions. For a Google Play subscription: in the Google Play app, under Payments and subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Changing plan. A new plan replaces the previous one; how the difference is charged depends on Apple or Google.
- Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Apple or Google keeps billing you until you cancel it with that store, and we cannot cancel it for you. Cancel first, then delete your account. Uninstalling the App does not cancel your subscription either.
- Restoring purchases. You can restore a purchase from the store screen with “Restore purchases”, on the store account you bought it with. Restoring works with or without an account. The subscription is then attached to the account or anonymous session currently used in the App. A subscription is attached to one account or session at a time.
- Refunds. Purchases are refunded, or not, by the store that sold them — Apple under its own policies, Google under its own. We do not otherwise refund payments, except where the law requires. This does not affect your mandatory consumer rights.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App unlawfully or to infringe the rights of others;
- copy, scrape, reverse engineer or extract the code or the data of the App, or access it by automated means beyond normal use, except where the law allows it;
- get around limits, paywalls or plan restrictions;
- interfere with the service, or try to gain unauthorised access to our systems or to other users’ data;
- submit false, abusive or unlawful reports, suggestions or sources, or add as a personal source an address that contains private information or that you are not entitled to share;
- reuse or resell the App’s content or measurements without our written permission.
6. Content of third parties and intellectual property
The App and the Site — name, logo, design, code, texts, coverage measurements and their presentation — belong to Opinion Scanner or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the App for your own non-commercial use, under these Terms.
Headlines, names, logos and articles that are shown or linked belong to their publishers and owners. Opinion Scanner is not affiliated with these media unless stated. When you open an article, the publisher’s own terms and privacy policy apply. The reading view and the audio reading are provided for your personal convenience.
When you send us a report, a suggestion or a source, you confirm that you may share it and you allow us to use it to operate and improve the service.
7. Personal data
We process personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
8. Availability, changes and liability
We aim for a continuous service but cannot guarantee it: maintenance, updates and outages of third parties (app stores, payment providers, cloud services, media websites) may interrupt it. The App relies on articles published by third parties; measurements depend on what we can read and are provided for information, without any warranty of completeness or accuracy.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the App is provided “as is”, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for the content or services of third parties. Nothing in these Terms excludes a liability that cannot be excluded by law, or your mandatory consumer rights.
9. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the App at any time and delete your account. On the 30th day after your request, we erase your sign-in details, name and email address, followed media, saved articles and personal sources; the Privacy Policy says what we keep.
We may restrict or suspend an account that breaches these Terms or puts the service or other users at risk. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. For material changes we will inform you in the App or on the Site before they apply. If you keep using the App after they apply, you accept them; if you do not accept them, stop using the App and delete your account.
11. Additional terms for Apple devices
If you use the App on an Apple device, the following also applies:
- These Terms are concluded between you and Opinion Scanner only, not with Apple. Opinion Scanner, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content.
- The licence granted to you is limited to a non-transferable licence to use the App on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules of the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for the App.
- If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which will refund the purchase price of the App, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App. Any other claim, loss or liability is ours to address.
- Opinion Scanner, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim relating to the App or to your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection claims; and for any claim that the App infringes a third party’s intellectual property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with the third-party terms that apply when you use the App, such as your mobile data agreement.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. When you accept them, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
- Questions, complaints or claims about the App: Frédéric Marcie (Opinion Scanner), contact@opinionscanner.app.
12. Applicable law and disputes
These Terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Before any legal action, please write to us so that we can try to settle the matter amicably. Subject to any right that the law gives you to bring a claim before the courts of your country of residence, the French courts have jurisdiction.
